Seven people are currently in custody following a robbery which occurred near East Wichel, Swindon.
At some point on September 4, the victim – a vulnerable man in his 40s – was walking along the alleyway that leads from East Wichel to Old Town, when he was approached by a group of youths who he did not know. The group stole his phone, shoes and house keys. During the incident he sustained minor injuries.
Following a public appeal last week and extensive police enquiries, two 16-year-old girls, four 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy, all from Swindon, have today been arrested on suspicion of robbery.
Insp Barry Reed said: “Despite the initial details of this incident being quite vague, we have been working hard to identify those involved. This was a nasty incident which left an already vulnerable man feeling particularly frightened and upset. This is unacceptable behaviour and no one should be made to feel intimidated about going out in their home town.
“These arrests are a really positive step in our investigation, but our enquiries remain ongoing and we’d urge anyone with further information to get in touch.”
