Swindon Police have arrested four people on suspicion of possession of a firearm after attending a property in Toothill yesterday afternoon - 18 September.

At around 2.30pm, officers were there over an unrelated matter and three men were seen acting suspiciously before making off.

A firearm was later located, and following what the force describes as swift proactive work from officers, the men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

A fourth man was later arrested in the town centre on suspicion of the same offence.

Police activity is ongoing in the local area and residents are likely to see an increased policing presence while officers carry out enquiries.

DI Rachel Hardy of Swindon CID said: “Following excellent work by our Swindon officers, four men are in custody after a firearm was located.

“These men are in custody and officers are continuing to question them.

“I’d like to reassure the public that there have been no reported injuries and at no point was there a threat to the public.

“We will maintain an increased presence in the local area while officers carry out their enquiries and residents are likely to see more high visibility patrols.”
