Staff at GWH have released details about the recent number of covid patients that have come through the hospital, and the changes to safety measures to reflect this.
Yesterday - 6 September - the hospital had nine patients being treated with confirmed covid-19, which is said to be down from 47, two months ago.
Due to the decrease in admissions, staff say they are now able to relax guidance surrounding mask wearing. Masks no longer need to be worn in most areas of the hospital, nor in our GP surgeries.
However, staff added that masks must continue to be worn in areas including the Emergency Department, assessment areas such as the Surgical Assessment Unit, areas with high risk patients (oncology / haemotology) and covid-19 wards.
Masks do not need to be worn when walking around the hospital, in corridors and stairwells, in restaurants or in other clinical and non-clinical areas.
A spokesperson from the hospital said: "We will keep the covid-19 position under regular review, and may need to introduce some safety measures if cases rise."
