Great Western Hospital have shared their most recent maternity statistics, including the number of baby boys and girls born over the course of December.
GWH staff have pooled together their maternity data from last December and are sharing the birthing statistics with members of the public.
During the month of December, GWH staff recorded the following:
- 137 spontaneous births took place in the hospital
- 8 people had water births
- There were 33 instrumental births
- There were also 4 planned home births
Also during December, there were 179 vaginal births, and 155 caesarean births recorded. Hospital staff added that 73.8% of mothers were breastfeeding at the time of discharge from GWH.
Last month, 334 babies were born. There were four sets of twins, 169 boys and 165 girls. Two of the babies were born sleeping.
