Local artist and author Hannah Dosanjh held a meet & greet and signing event for her new book "A Railway Town Called Swindon", featuring two special canine protagonists.
Hannah's new children's book ‘How Bright Ideas Built a Railway Town’ is all about the Great Western Railway and how it put Swindon on the map. She has written the story, and illustrated it herself.
The book is written in rhyme, and features two special dogs, Isambark Kingdog Brunel and Sir Spaniel Gooch who feature on every page.
Saturday saw Hannah held a book signing event that families could pop along to. As well as purchasing a book that could then be signed, the local author was also running competitions and doing some live sketching, with assistance from the library staff.
Hannah's launch was the first since 2019. There were colourful activities for children, who could learn about the Juvenile Fete and The Trip - the annual holiday laid on by the Mechanics Institution.
Hannah said: "The children really enjoyed hearing about the huge factory that used to be here, and what life was like before cars and mobile phones.
"And of course they loved spotting our intrepid doggie guides Isambark Kingdog Brunel and Spaniel Gooch hidden in the pictures! The library staff have been very supportive and made this a lovely environment for the children to be in."
Hannah’s book is available from the central library shop, Wroughton library, Bert’s books and her website www.hannahdosanjh.co.uk
Information & Digital Skills Librarian, Dawn Heavens, said she was delighted with the children's work which will be used to decorate one of the library windows next month.
She added: "We do our best to make this a welcoming space for children as it’s so important that they develop a love of books."
