During the visit, Dr Goodwin met with staff of the Swindon-based charity and learned more about the vital services SWA provides to individuals and families.
He found out about the charity’s work with children and schools through the HOPE Outreach and HOPE Schools Award.
SWA team members also explained how they are changing lives through their behaviour change programme, Open2Change, which works with those who cause harm through domestic abuse and aims to stop it happening again, as well as equipping business and local community groups with the knowledge needed to help end domestic abuse through Ambassador training.
This year’s High Sheriff Charity Concert will raise money for SWA. Organised by Rotary Swindon Cares, the evening will feature performances from young choristers from the JTP Trust Youth Choir, performing an extract of their own Youth Opera: Brunel, the Little Man in The Tall Hat; and Ten in a Bar, well-known in the Swindon area for their high standards of singing as well as their unusual and wide-ranging repertoire from serious contemporary works to popular modern classics.
Dr Goodwin said: “Finding out more about the extent of domestic abuse in the area was eye-opening.
"The work SWA does in and around Swindon is so important in one day achieving their goal of a society free from domestic abuse.
"I am very excited to host the annual High Sheriff’s Charity Concert to raise money to help SWA continue in its work with women, men and families in the area and make a difference to so many lives, now and in the future.
"The concert is set to be an exciting night of excellent music and it would be great to see music-lovers from across Swindon come together to raise much-needed funds for a valuable, local charity.”
Tickets are priced at just £10 for the concert, or £20 to include a reception following the concert.
