No sooner had registration for the 2019 Mad March Hare opened in November when Rainbow Guider, Jane McDougall, leapt in to become the first entrant.

The 52 year old mother of three took part in the 2018 event, spurred on by the involvement of a group from her Slimming World Group.

Jane has lost 4 stone with slimming world started running in November 2017 and completed her first Mad March Hare 5k in 2018 but has challenged herself this year by signing up for the 10k and plans to run the event with friends from the Liden and Swindon East Slimming World group self-named ‘Slimming World Striders’.

Jane said ‘I had a couple of injuries in the summer which kept me from running but now I am back fit and was looking for an event during the start of 2019. I really enjoyed the event last year, particularly the community feel so it seemed ideal. I searched the event and registration was open so I decided to register. I am happy to have an event to work towards and it’s also for a great cause. I would recommend the Mad March Hare event to anyone as it’s a great friendly event. Our group has people of all abilities, some started in September 2017 but others have joined more recently, we are all very supportive of each other and I am hoping a number of them will join me in signing up for the Mad March Hare again this year. ‘

The 12th Mad March Hare event will take place on Sunday 24rd March 2019 starting and finishing at Lydiard Park Academy.  The 5km or 10km routes will take walkers, joggers and runners around a circular route of West Swindon and the popular Lydiard Park.
