The new rule has been in place since Saturday and the Cineworld chain, whose Swindon branches are at Shaw Ridge and Regent  Circus, is reminding customers to wear face coverings.
Masks can only be removed while eating and drinking.
In an online message to customers, the company said: "The health and wellbeing of our customers and employees is our top priority.
"We are following Government guidelines in order to make cinemagoers feel comfortable and provide a safe but enjoyable cinema experience."
Saff have been provided with masks and visors, and given special training, and Cineworld is participating in contact tracing.
The cinema chain added in its guidance to customers: "All employee and customer areas will be arranged and managed so as to promote and maintain social distancing within our cinemas.
"Additionally, we have updated our seating maps to ensure social distancing is maintained while still allowing families and friends to sit together.
"This will vary on the capacity and layout of the screen."
Other safety measures in place include staggered film start and end times and hand sanitising stations.
