Swindon MP Robert Buckland and staff members from the Diwali Restaurant joined the Nepalese Association in their clean up effort.

Saturday 16 October saw Swindon's Nepalese community, MP Robert Buckland, and other volunteers take part in a litter picking to clean up the Shaw Village Centre area in Ramleaze.

The group met at 1pm and spent two hours collecting bits of rubbish littering the public space.

On behalf of the Nepalese Association, Chairman Gurung, General Secretary Mr Bhawani Prasad Gurung and Dipendra Gurung, the Director of Diwali Restaurant, were present.

The Vice Chairman of the Parish Council, Mr Suresh Gattapur, and Cllr Mrs Nandini Singh of Ramleaze and Middleleaze were also in attendance.

The Diwali Restaurant also provided tea and coffee for those taking part in the litter picking.

This clean up initiative is one of many that the Nepalese community living around the periphery of Swindon area has conducted.

Saturday's efforts were in coordination of the Nepalese Association of Wiltshire's faith time cleaning program.

Chairman of the Community, Mr Gyan Prasad Gurung said: "Local parks, footpaths and local residential areas were cleaned and over a dozen people were involved in the program.

"We were really happy to have support and encouragement from MP Robert Buckland for our clean up initiative. It was great to hear Mr Buckland expressing his appreciation for our exemplary program, initiated by our community."
