This month will see the Rotary Club of Swindon Old Town return to put on a day of duck racing and family fun - including a dog show.

The day of activities will be held on Sunday 29 May, at the Westcott Recreation Park.

The event will run from 11am - 4pm, and all proceeds will go to local charities.

Two key local charities selected this year are Threshold Housing Link -which does important work supporting homeless people and helping them to get their lives back on track - and the Jessie May Childrens’ Charity, which supports children with life limiting medical conditions in their home environment.

Several other important local charities will also be supported.

Duck race tickets are priced at £1 and there will be seven prizes for the first seven placing winners. First prize is £1000 and there will also be six £100 prizes up for grabs.

The Drakes local business race will take place at 2.30pm, the Schools race at 3pm, and the Main race at 3.30pm.

As well as the duck races, the Rotary club say the attractions will include:

  • Soft toy tombola
  • Cake stalls
  • Craft fair
  • Charity stalls
  • Refreshment outlets
  • Children's activities

As well as the attractions listed above, the Rotary club are holding a Fun Dog Show as part of the duck race family day.

The dog show will be run by Miles and Jayne of The Runner pub in Swindon.

Registration for pets will take place at 10.30am, for an 11am start. There will be six different classes for pets to be judged across:

  • Class 1 - Best condition dog over 12 months
  • Class 2 - Best condition bitch over 12 months
  • Class 3 - Best junior handler (children under 12 years, any dog)
  • Class 4 - Best rescue dog (any age, any breed)
  • Class 5 - Best puppy under 12 months
  • Class 6 - Best veterans (any dog over the age of 12 years)
  • Class 7 - Dog with the waggiest tail (any age or breed)

All winnings dogs from classes 1/7 will go through to the championship class.

Entry for the dog show is priced at £2, and all monies will go to SNDogs.

A spokesperson for the Rotary club said: "The Ducks are getting excited and in training (with a little imagination!). Tickets already being sold and will also be available on the day.

"All funds raised through ticket sales, and on the day, will go to charities, due to generous sponsorship again by Nationwide Building Society and Arkells Brewery, to whom we are very grateful for their continued support.

"Do come along and support such a good cause and have a great day out! We look forward to seeing you. Thank you."
