The Great Western Hospital will be holding the talk to raise awareness for Organ Donation Week.

The virtual talk will be held today - 23 September - from 5pm - 7pm.

Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Mark Yates, will be discussing organ donation in order to answer questions the public may have. This talk coincides with Organ Donation Week which started on Monday 20 September.

Organ donation is the act of giving an organ to save or improve the life of someone who needs a transplant.

Although organ and tissue donations will mainly come from people who have died, individuals are able to donate some organs whilst being alive, for example a kidney, or part of the liver.

Anyone can register a decision to donate their organs and tissue when they die, regardless of their age or medical conditions. To ensure that all donated organs are safe, the donor's medical and lifestyle history is assessed at the time of donation.

A GWH spokesperson said: "We would encourage everyone to start talking about organ donation. Even if you’re not sure if you want to donate, having that conversation might help you make up your mind."

GWH have provided a link to give members of the public advice on how to talk to loved ones and others around them, about organ donation.
