A new Plough Horse sculpture has been placed on the Gablecross roundabout in Swindon.

Members of the public driving into Swindon from the east will now be able to see the new Plough Horse sculpture that stands guard on the Gablecross roundabout.

The mounds which the horse is placed on were designed by Trudi Entwistle, while the horse, standing at over two metres tall and made of cold cast iron, was sculpted by Holly Hickmore.

Holly chose a horse as her inspiration for the sculpture as she said she believes it majestically illustrates Swindon’s strong heritage as a farming town.

The artwork was commissioned as part of the New Eastern Villages development (NEV) and financed by Section 106 funding.

This means that the money was allocated for the purpose of this public art and cannot be distributed elsewhere, at no cost to the taxpayer.
