Wiltshire Police have launched a Community Christmas Appeal to help those who need extra support over the seasonal period.

Wiltshire Police staff say they recognise the impact of the pandemic has had a devastating effect on many people throughout the county, leaving them feeling isolated, lonely and vulnerable. They believe these feelings will often be felt more so than ever during Christmas.

To help remind those in need throughout the local community that they are surrounded by care, compassion and support, Wiltshire Police's Citizens in Policing Team have launched a Community Christmas Appeal.

The team are asking for the public to nominate someone from Wiltshire or Swindon that they think would benefit from receiving a ‘care package’ in time for Christmas which will include a handwritten Christmas card or letter.

Police Support Volunteers and Special Constables will be helping to support this appeal and police cadets will be creating hanging decorations and writing Christmas cards.

Those that would like to nominate someone can do so via the Wiltshire Police website at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx...

Members of the public can also support this cause personally by donating items for the care packages. There will be collection boxes in the Enquiry Offices at Swindon Gablecross, Trowbridge Police Station, Devizes Police Headquarters and Melksham Police Station.

Any surplus items will be donated to local care homes that the police cadets work with and the local refuges within Wiltshire.

Donation items could include:

- Hats
- Scarves
- Gloves
- Jams/Marmalades
- Mince pies
- Christmas Puddings
- Prewrapped chocolate/sweets

Any schools or local businesses that would like to get involved and support the cause are being asked to contact the appeal team by emailing vc@wiltshire.police.uk
