Swindon group the Mechanics' Institution Trust is inviting crafters of all abilities to create poppies and hearts for a special display at Emlyn Square for Remembrance Day - 11 November.

The appeal is being shared by Swindon Borough Council, and a spokesperson said: "If you can knit, sew, crochet, or work with materials like paper, wood, or plastic, get involved!
"Your creations can include red, purple, white, and black poppies and hearts."
Each colour represents a different aspect of remembrance and honour:
- Red poppies are a symbol of Remembrance for the soldiers who gave their lives in service to their country during wartime
- Purple poppies are a symbol of remembrance for the animals which served and sacrificed their lives during wartime
- White poppies represent the hope for a future without war and a commitment to peaceful conflict resolution
- Black poppies honour the contributions and sacrifices made by Black, African, and Caribbean communities during wartime
Crafted items, along with the name of the crafter, should be put into the letterbox at the Central Community Centre in Emlyn Square by Tuesday 31 October.
