Whitbread's first ever all-electric Premier Inn is currently under construction on Regent Street.
The Premier Inn hotel is being constructed on a vacant brownfield site on Regent Street, and passers-by may have seen the building slowly rising as work gathers pace.
The five-storey, 195-bedroom hotel, is the first Premier Inn to be designed without a connection to a natural gas supply. Instead, Swindon Borough Council say the hotel will be fully heated and powered by grid energy generated from renewable sources and by on-site solar panels.
The council say the hotel will bring new jobs and a boost to the local economy, as well as having a reduced environmental footprint.
Built to the highest construction standards (BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating), the hotel will feature:
- Solar panels on the roof to generate clean energy on-site
- Air source heat pumps for space heating and water heating
- An air-to-water heat pump for heating hot water
