No one goes into politics to be rich, but some politicians are the wealthiest in the world. The majority of wealthy politicians acquired their money from a family business and increased their net worth through politics while some started from scratch and earned it. It’s easy to recognize the wealthiest politicians, even if you’re not interested in politics. But if you don’t know them, here’s a list of the wealthiest politicians around the world based on their net worth.

Richest Politicians Around The World According To Their Net Worth

  1. Vladimir Putin

The wealthiest politician on earth is Vladimir Putin. He was the prime minister of Russia, from 1999 to 2000, and later served as the president for eight years, when the Russian economy grew and recovered from a previous financial crisis. After 2008, Putin was the prime minister again until he won his last presidential run and is now serving his second term as president of Russia. Vladimir Putin's estimated wealth is between $70 billion and $200 billion, making him the wealthiest politician in the world.

  1. Michael Bloomberg

The former mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, made his way to be the second wealthiest politician with a net worth that reached $54 billion in 2019. Bloomberg is not only an American politician, but also a successful entrepreneur and founder of Bloomberg L.P.

  1. Maha Vajiralongkorn

The crown prince of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn, is the third wealthiest politician in the world. Maha Vajiralongkorn inherited most of his wealth from his father, king of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej. Vajiralongkorn graduated from the Royal Military College and trained with the British armed services. His father named him crown prince at the age of 20 and he currently has a net worth of $30 billion.

  1. Mohammed Bin Rashid

The Vice president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed Bin Rashid, has a net worth of $18 billion. He is currently the ruler of Dubai and the founder of the palm islands in the Persian Gulf. Mohammed Bin Rashid is putting all of his efforts into making the United Arab Emirates the greatest country on earth; his success in Dubai demonstrates how dedicated he is to his goals.

  1. Joe Biden

Joe Biden, the former American vice president has a net worth of $9 million. Although it might seem low compared to other politicians net worth, Biden dedicated 43 years of his life serving America as a senator and then as the vice president during the Obama administration. In 2014, Joe Biden was broke and was concentrating on serving his country, Biden got over his financial crisis after he left the government service.

  1. Donald Trump

The current president of the United States has a net worth of $4.5 Billion. Donald Trump made his fortune from his hotels, resorts, and real estate investments; not from politics. Before running for president, trump was a very successful businessman and only showed his interest in politics a few years ago.

The top five wealthiest politicians either had a successful business or inherited the money from their parents just like Maha Vajiralongkorn. The lowest net worth goes to Joe Biden who didn’t own a business and focused on serving his country. This shows that it's nearly impossible to be wealthy by being a politician. However, one can take advantage of the benefits and find another source of income. Being a politician has many benefits, but a very low salary compared to the work required.
