South Swindon MP Sir Robert Buckland has announced he has resigned from his position as Welsh Secretary.
Formerly the Justice Secretary during Boris Johnson's time as Prime Minister, Mr Buckland shared on social media today - 25 October - that he would be 'submitting his resignation from Government.'
He has shared an image of his letter of resignation on his social media pages, addressed to the new Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
Mr Buckland captioned the image with the following: "It has been an honour to serve as Secretary of State for Wales, and to have served four Prime Ministers as Solicitor General, Justice Minister & Lord Chancellor.
"I am leaving the Government at my request, but will be supporting our new Prime Minister from the backbenches. Local residents can be assured of my continued strong support here in South Swindon."
Mr Buckland's letter of resignation starts out by congratulating Mr Sunak on his new position, and informing him that he will be resigning from his former Government position as Welsh Secretary.
Sir Robert then goes on to detail the changes and progress he made during his time in his previous role, and assures Mr Sunak that he will be 'supporting him from the backbenches' and that he will 'continue to serve [...] his fellow residents in South Swindon' as he 'has done since 2010.'
