Swindon Borough Council has spotlighted an individual within the Swindon community who has been doing his part for the national Cycle To Work Day campaign.

People across Swindon are hopping on their bikes today for #CycleToWorkDay.

Amongst them is Daniel Parker. Daniel is a keen cyclist from Swindon and a member of Breakaway Cycling Club. He cycles to work and says he loves the benefits he gets from ditching the car.

He said: “I cycle to work as I’ve found that getting on the bike in the morning is a great way to wake yourself up and get ready for the challenges the day might bring. My route to work goes through its physical ups and downs which is what prepares me for the day.

“I also found that cycling got me to work quicker than I would just sitting in traffic in my car, and as I don’t have many colleagues who live close by, I was travelling in my car solo. This meant I was creating a large carbon footprint for myself which I wasn’t proud of.

“Since I’ve started cycling to work, I’ve noticed I’ve also been able to save a lot of money on fuel, which we can all appreciate at the moment. It’s also a great feeling getting to cycle past a long queue of cars you’d otherwise be stuck in.”

Swindon Borough Council say those who have considered cycling to work but aren’t sure where to start, can visit the Swindon Travel Choices website, where they will find interactive cycling maps and information about training and parking for bikes, to help people plan their journey safely: https://www.swindontravelchoices.co.uk/

People can find other ways to stay active and reduce their environmental footprints, on the council's Be the Change webpages at www.swindon.gov.uk/bethechange
