An appeal for witnesses has been launched by the police after an attempted robbery and two sexual assaults in Swindon’s town centre.

Shortly before 1pm on Tuesday, 1 June, an elderly couple withdrew money from a bank to pay their rent and were approached at the top of Regent Street, near to the Central Library, by a man on a bike who tried to grab the money and a mobile phone.
The suspect then assaulted both, causing injuries.
Following the attempted robbery, the police say, the suspect rode his bike along Regent Street into the town centre and sexually assaulted a woman at approximately 1.30pm.
He then travelled toward Groundwell Road and committed a further sexual assault on a girl shortly after 2pm. It is believed that members of the public pulled over and challenged him on his behaviour.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and two counts of sexual assault and has since been released pending further enquiries.
PC Adam Horwood of the Swindon Response Team said: “This would have been a horrific ordeal for the victims involved, and we are keen to hear from anyone who have witnessed any of these incidents.
“All these offences occurred in broad daylight and there would have been a number of people around the top of Regent Street when the attempted robbery took place and when the sexual assaults took place.
“If anyone has seen any of these incidents we urge you to please come forward and contact us on 101, quoting crime number 54210052263.”
