South Swindon Parish Council have released a statement addressing public concerns over the condition of the lake within Queen's Park.
The parish council say they are aware of the situation in Queen's Park and are looking at solutions to rectify it.
Due to the unusually hot and dry weather this year, the lake is said to have experienced an oxygen crash due to the water being unable to replenish itself.
The parish council say Queen's Park Lake's wildlife and ecosystem has been drastically affected by the quickly changing conditions, leading to the death of some of the aquatic life in the lake.
Some residents are said to have linked the rise in duckweed on the lake with the sudden deaths of the aquatic life. Although this problem is unsightly and not the ideal environment for wildlife, the parish council say it is not the reason for the oxygen crash.
A spokesperson for the South Swindon Parish Council commented: We are taking this matter very seriously and have reached out to an aquatic management company to increase the oxygenation in the lake as soon as possible.
"We have also been in touch with the Environment Agency and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust for water testing services. We will update you with more information when it becomes available."
