North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and Cllr Steve Heyes officially opened the outdoor gym equipment at Brook Park last weekend, to a group of fitness enthusiasts.
St Andrews Parish Council and playground equipment company Kompan put on the special event, bringing in personal trainers to demonstrate how to use the equipment.
Alongside the demonstrations, attendees were shown a free App that provides its users with instructions and suggested workout packages.
Cllr Steve Heyes, Chair of St Andrews Play Parks Committee, said he recognised the need for a modern gym facility that encouraged outdoor activity, and researched options to bring this to the community.
The parish council was impressed with the outdoor gym option provided by Kompan, which brings the indoor gym experience outside, offering a range of equipment specially designed for outdoor use.
The gym has been made accessible for all, including those with special access needs, and can be used by older teenagers, adults, and senior citizens.
Since opening, the outdoor workout space is said to have received great feedback from experienced gym users and people with accessible needs.
The parish council say one user, a gentleman from the local Veterinarians society, who comes and uses the gym at least once a week, said: “I have to catch two buses if I want to go to the gym… but now it’s on my doorstep, I think it’s fantastic .. it’s wonderful"
The St Andrews Parish Council say they hope this new addition will inspire more people to get outdoors and get active.
