Extra vaccination clinics are being held across the region tomorrow (Saturday 7 December) to help children most at risk.

Vulnerable children from across Bath and North east Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire are being offered an additional opportunity to get protected against Covid 19 before Christmas.

Children aged between five and 17 years, who have an increased risk of Covid-19, such as those with poorly controlled asthma and other conditions that affect the immune system, are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Walk-in clinics on Saturday 7 December Five walk-in vaccination clinics, for children over five years old, are planned across the region in Chippenham, Bath, Salisbury, Marlborough and Swindon, with full details of each available online at bswtogether.org.uk/yourhealth/seasonal-covid-19/

  • Chippenham Community Hospital – 10am – 3pm
  • St Martin’s Hospital, Bath - 10am – 3pm
  • Salisbury Central Health Centre - 10am – 3pm
  • Savernake Community Hospital, Marlborough - 10am – 4pm
  •  Pinetrees Community Centre, Swindon – 2.15pm – 4.30pm

Dr Barry Coakley, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, said: “Super Saturday is a great opportunity for children and young people who have yet to be protected against Covid-19 to go into this winter season with their immunity levels topped up.

“Covid-19 remains a significant threat to our health, and the vaccine is particularly important for those children and young people who have health conditions that put them at a higher risk of falling ill.

“It's especially important for those who are vulnerable to stay protected, as it can help to reduce the risk of getting severe symptoms, aid recovery and lessen the likelihood of needing to go to hospital."

With over half a million vaccinations delivered so far to those eligible in BSW, Super Saturday is dedicated to supporting children and young people to stay well during the colder months. Children who have received a vaccine previously are still encouraged to get a top-up dose of the updated vaccine this winter, as a person’s immunity naturally fades over time and the viruses causing problems this season may be different from those that have come before.

Parents who may be worried about their children’s health this winter can find out more about how to recognise and treat seasonal illnesses with help and advice available online.
