Members of Swindon's Green Party have called on the town's Conservative MPs to speak out against Boris Johnson and the developments of 'Partygate.'

The Greens want Swindon Conservative MPs Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland, to speak out against Boris Johnson and call for his resignation in the wake of the unfolding news surrounding lockdown parties at 10 Downing Street.

Swindon Greens’ Andy Bentley, who stood against Justin Tomlinson at the 2019 General Election, has written to the North Swindon MP asking him to speak out. Mr Bentley believes that after “...months of lies, incompetence, and sleaze”, it is long past the time when Mr Tomlinson should have spoken out.

In his letter, Mr Bentley says: “From Cummings to Paterson to Johnson himself, time and again it has been one rule for him and his team, and another for the rest of us.

“We now know that, under Boris Johnson’s ‘leadership’, Downing Street has been partying while the rest of us were in lockdown. ‘Bring your own booze’ has been normalised, to the point where Mr Johnson claims he didn’t even realise he was at a party.

“I would like to think that you have already submitted your letter to Graham Brady MP indicating that Mr Johnson no longer has your support. If you have not, what will it take before you do?”

Swindon Green Party are also calling for the Sue Gray report into lockdown parties in Government buildings, including 10 Downing Street, to be released in full and as soon as possible.

Swindon Green Party chair Chris Noyce said: “Public trust in the Conservative Government has been significantly damaged in the last couple of months following the publication of allegations of parties at Downing Street and other Government buildings.

“It’s vital the report is released in as full a version as possible to the public so people can make up their minds. We’d encourage every Swindon resident to lobby Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland, our MPs, to ensure this happens.”
