Chancellor Rishi Sunak's Budget has been dismissed by Swindon Labour.
Swindon Borough Council Labour Group leader Jm Grant said: "The country was crying out for Budget to put the country on the recovery and right the wrongs of the last decade by rebuilding our economic foundations – this Budget just papers over the cracks.
“There was no mention of the NHS at all, or social care, or schools, or crime, or a credible plan to restore our high streets. Neither was there any support for the automotive industry, which is so important for Swindon.
“This is another example of the Conservatives having the wrong priorities; cuts to stamp duty for second home owners and a cut to the incomes of the lowest paid.
“Meanwhile the key workers who have been on the front line during this pandemic are having their pay frozen when they deserve a pay rise.
“A Labour Budget would have put the NHS and social care at the heart of a new settlement to build a country fit for our Coronavirus heroes. It would have had a plan to rebuild the foundations of our economy for the long-term.”
