Swindon & Wiltshire Pride will be taking the party to Queens Park after a march, and Nationwide Building Society have been announced as main sponsor for the Picnic event.

Swindon & Wiltshire Pride celebrations will be taking place on Saturday 13 August this year.

Phoenix Stewart, community engagement officer said: “Nationwide Building Society have been a huge supporter for us over the years, and we’re extremely excited to have them back on board to support our alternative event for 2022.”

He continued, “We have lots of exciting plans ready for this summer and it’s partnerships like this that allow us to create these events that are really important for the whole community.”

The charity recently announced the return of the vibrant Pride march, and now an official After Party has been added to the day of events hosted by Boom Battle Bar.

The march will begin outside H&M in The Parade at 11:30am, before heading through the town centre, past the town hall, and arriving at Queens Park for a picnic with live entertainment, a pop-up shop, youth zone and giant deck chair.

After the picnic event in Queens Park, the community are invited to a Boom Battle Bar at Regent Circus for a free pride celebration with an evening of live entertainment and music.

Denise Dymond, trustee for the charity said: “The Pride Picnic will be a festival of freedom and fabulousness, a chance to celebrate who we are, and these events are always popular with our supporters for a reason. This year we’re proud to be joining up with Boom Battle Bar, it will be an 18+ event and make sure you order your tickets and don’t miss out!”

Faye Whitmarsh, Director of People Strategy and Culture at Nationwide Building Society, who is joining the Swindon Pride Picnic, said: “Joining the Pride Picnic with our members, family and friends is a great way to show our support to the LGBTQ+ community. It’s an opportunity to celebrate, educate, and raise awareness of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people  in our society I’m proud to be part of the event.”

Tickets for the March, Picnic and After Party are free and can be ordered from www.swindonwiltshirepride.co.uk.

Jane Hanson, Nationwide’s Leader of People and Culture, who is also joining the Swindon Pride Picnic added: “Now more than ever it’s important that Nationwide is supportive of our LGBTQ+ colleagues, members and communities. I’m pleased to say we are supporting the Swindon Pride Picnic and Pride March this year, demonstrating our commitment to Swindon and our members as an employer and financial services provider that values diversity and promotes inclusion.”

Nationwide Building Society has participated in many Pride Parades over recent years including Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast and Swindon.

The Society’s Proud Network (Nationwide’s LGBTQ+ employee network group) says it actively supports employees across its branch network and admin sites, delivering activities and events that inform, educate and inspire all employees, to help us all be better LGBTQ+ allies at Nationwide.
