A prolific shoplifter from Swindon has been banned from entering town centre stores following a spate of thefts.

Martin Morgan, 37, of Sheppard Street, was arrested on 9 January for thefts from Boots and Co-Op in Swindon town centre.

He also admitted breaching a previously imposed Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering premises in the town centre and breaching court bail.

He appeared at Swindon Crown Court today - 20 Jan - and was given a new Criminal Behaviour Order which once again prohibits him from entering any town centre premises, save for entering Barclays bank.

He was also given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

PC Paul Bezzant said: “We welcome the reauthorisation of the two year Criminal Behaviour Order which will hopefully prevent offending by Morgan and causing misery to local shop owners. If Morgan enters stores within the town centre, he will be committing an offence and may be arrested.

“We will be working closely with business owners in the town centre to ensure Morgan adheres with the conditions of the order over the coming weeks and months."
