Pupils at a local school are set to enjoy a newly refurbished playground, thanks to a Community Fund donation from Swindon’s Bus Company.

A jungle gym trail will include new play equipment for youngsters at Westlea Primary School. The aim is to give children opportunities to take part in educational games and break-time activities outside.

Headteacher of Westlea Primary School, Sarah Sumner, said: “We want our pupils to enjoy outdoor learning and physical activities, to make a positive impact on their wellbeing.

“To do this, we have been fundraising, and our Support Squad (PTA) also applied to Swindon’s Bus Company’s Community Fund for some help. We were delighted when they offered us £500, which will go a long way towards creating this wonderful project. Our 303 pupils, and our school staff, would like to thank Swindon’s Bus Company for this generous gesture.”

Alex Chutter from Swindon’s Bus Company added: “We introduced the Community Fund to help support all manner of local good causes - from charities to sports teams - and we encouraged anyone who needs a helping hand, however big or small, to apply.

“The new Westlea Primary School jungle gym trail will offer local children a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors whilst taking part in fitness games and activities. We’re delighted to be donating to such a worthy cause.”

Swindon’s Bus Company's Community Fund is open to applicants twice a year, during December and June when the bus operator will fund or support good causes up to the value of £500.
