Representatives of Swindon Borough Council released a statement saying they 'were really saddened to learn that Councillor Pam Adams died unexpectedly late last week.'

Tributes have poured in from members of Swindon Borough Council for Pam Adams, who passed away this month.

A retired teacher, Cllr Adams was elected as a Labour councillor for St Margaret and South Marston ward last year.

She was then re-elected to Stratton St Margaret Parish Council earlier this month.

Additionally, Pam was also a member of the Growing the Economy Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Planning Committee and Resources and Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Labour Group Leader, Cllr Jim Robbins, said ahead of the Annual Council meeting: “The Labour Group and the Council were stunned by the sad and unexpected news late last week. Our thoughts are with Pam’s husband, her two sons, and her whole family.

“Pam was a key member of the Labour Group and she will be much missed. I know that she was hugely delighted by Labour's recent election win and my last call from her was full of positivity and hope as we planned her role in the new Administration.

“I knew Pam as a colleague at Lawn Manor Academy before we were both elected, and she was a great teacher who was regularly stopped by old pupils who loved to update her on what they were now up to.

“She was a brilliant councillor, and so good at relating to residents and supporting them with their issues. Her sad death will really overshadow the council meeting this week.”

Cllr Gary Sumner, Leader of the Conservative Group, said: “This sad news came as a shock to all of us in the Conservative Group. Some knew Pam better than others, but it is always a tragedy when something like this happens so unexpectedly. Despite any political differences you may have, at times like this you realise you’re all part of one big family of local councillors.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to Pam’s family, friends and colleagues in the Labour Group.”

A minute’s silence was held in memory of Cllr Adams on 19 May at the Annual Council meeting.
