Two men arrested after being seen trying car doors in the early hours

Two men were arrested in Swindon yesterday (05/07) after residents reported seeing suspicious activity in the Upham Road area.

At approximately 3.55am, officers were called to the area following reports of two men in the street causing a disturbance and seen to be trying car door handles. 
Officers attended and located two men – one stood near to the Swindon Sea Cadets and another underneath a vehicle parked on a private driveway. When officers attempted to move the man from underneath the vehicle, he kicked an officer to the leg several times. 
One of the men, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference and possession of an offensive weapon. 
The second man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference, Section 4 public order after he was verbally abusive towards paramedics at the scene, criminal damage to a police van and assaulting an emergency worker.
Both men were taken to Gablecross custody for further questioning and have since been released on bail while further enquiries are carried out.
