Swindon Borough Council’s Armed Forces Champion and North Swindon Parliamentary Candidate Will Stone joined Swindon Veterans for an informal breakfast.

Also at the Kembrey Inn for the breakfast with the organisation was Heidi Alexander, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon.

Cllr Stone said: “As someone who served as a Rifleman in the Army, I know that our Armed Forces are made up of great men and women who have served our country with incredible loyalty and bravery.

"These breakfast clubs are a brilliant way to have chat, reconnect with vets and enjoy some of that famous military banter.

"In my role as Swindon’s Armed Forces Champion, I’m really keen that the borough council builds a close working relationship with all veterans in the town and that we do all we can to support them and their families.”

Heidi Alexander, who organised the visit after she was invited on Facebook by Dave Shaw from the group, said: “You can’t beat a good fry up on a Sunday morning and I really enjoyed meeting everyone.

"The Labour Party is determined to do right by those who have served in our Armed Forces. I’m particularly keen that as part of our wider mission to provide good mental health support for everyone, we ensure veterans can access timely and high quality mental health care.

"The whole issue of compensation for people who are suffering from Gulf War Syndrome has also been raised with me when I’ve been knocking on doors in Swindon and that’s something I’ve already raised with the Shadow Defence Ministers.”

There are a number of Veterans Breakfast gatherings across Swindon, including at the Kembrey Inn and the Tawny Owl on Sunday mornings and the Toby Carvery at Abbey Meads on Saturday mornings.
