Voting advice ahead of election

Swindon Borough Council have offered advice for residents ahead of the General Election on 4 July.

They advise that if you are not already registered to vote, the deadlne to register is 5pm on Tuesday 18 June. https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

You only need to register once, not for every election. You will need to register again if you have changed your name, address or nationality. 

Postal vote applications need to be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June. https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.

Proxy vote applications need to be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June. https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.

Photo ID is mandatory to vote at a polling station. If you do not have accepted photo ID, you must apply for a free voter ID by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June. https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate.
