A festive open day is being held at Westlea fire station on Sunday 9 December in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event will run from 10.30am until 3pm, and Santa will be in his grotto between noon and 2pm – having been ‘rescued’ from the training tower by firefighters beforehand.

There will be a wide range of activities to suit the whole family, including:

  • Both modern and vintage fire engines on display;
  • Other appliances from within Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service;
  • Cooker fire demonstrations;
  • A range of craft stalls and attractions;
  • Stands from British Red Cross, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Wiltshire Police, WILSAR and DWFRS Safe & Well
  • Refreshments – hot food & drinks;
  • A raffle with some great prizes.

Event organisers, Firefighter Simon Owen and Crew Manager Robbie MacPherson, said: “This is a great way to start the Christmas season, and an opportunity for local people to visit the fire station and find out more about what we do. Thanks to a number of local businesses, children visiting Santa in his grotto will get a small present – there will be a small charge for this, but all proceeds will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, which is a really important cause for us.”

As well as the open day, the Westlea crew will be making their popular visits around the West Swindon area with Father Christmas and a vintage fire appliance, again to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

These will be on 3 December (Westlea area), 14 December (Shaw) and 19 December (Sparcells and Peatmoor), all starting from 5.30pm.
