A community event with food and entertainment will be held at the Wichelstowe development from 11am to 2pm on Sunday 11 August.

Organised by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, it is open to everyone and offers an opportunity for visitors to experience the new community that has emerged at The Orchards at Wichelstowe.

The event will feature a variety of stands from local companies, providing something for everyone to enjoy, including:

- Kingfisher School: Arts & Crafts

- Deanery Fencing Group: Fencing Demonstrations

- Local Martial Arts Club: Martial Arts Displays

- Wichelstowe Runners: Running Group Information

- The Stowe Church: Community Engagement

- Pauline Quirk Academy: Singing, Acting, and Drama Performances

- WI Group: Women's Institute Activities

- Deanery Lettings Group: Housing Information

Rev Owen Green, co-minister at Christian community The Stowe, has been instrumental in organising the event.

He said: “We want to help neighbours become friends and find ways of connecting with others and their wider local community so this becomes an even more welcoming, flourishing place.

"There will be fun activities for all who come along, a chance to get to know one another and experience what this new community has become.”

Owen has worked closely with the teams from Barratt Homes Bristol and Barratt David Wilson Homes South West who are providing a pizza & milkshake van and ice cream van so visitors can enjoy free refreshments on the day.  There’s also face painting and a games area for children.

Daniel Pavely, Project Director at Wichelstowe, said: “This weekend’s event is a testament to the strong bonds we’re fostering at Wichelstowe.

"We’re proud to support such a diverse range of local groups and activities and look forward to welcoming everyone to what promises to be a fantastic day.

"We’re excited with the prospect of seeing the Wichelstowe community come together for this event – it’s a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the unique spirit and camaraderie that defines our new neighbourhood."

The event is taking place along Scott Way, opposite David Wilson Homes’ Orchards Rise sales arena.

The Wichelstowe development is being built by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in partnership with Swindon Borough Council which will deliver 3,000 new homes along with new schools and community facilities.

The 250-hectare site on the southern edge of Swindon will include extensive open spaces, nature conservation areas, playing pitches and allotments.

As part of this neighbourhood residents can enjoy 12km of new nature trails, play areas, 200 acres of open space and walks along the Wilts and Berks canal. There is also a range of schools for children of all ages within easy reach.

Junction 16 of the M4 and Swindon train station are both within a ten-minute drive, providing easy access to Bristol and London.

Barratt David Wilson Homes South West will launch a new phase at Canalside in early 2025 and potential buyers can register at www.dwh.co.uk soon while Barratt Homes Bristol will soon unveil a new phase at Wichel Fields. For more information, people can visit www.barratthomes.co.uk.
