The popular village duck race event will be held again this May Bank Holiday to raise money for local children's groups.
The Wroughton Duck Race will be taking place on 1 May, between 12pm - 5pm at Willow-Brook Gardens.
As well as the races, there will be stalls, a produce sale, and refreshments for attendees to enjoy.
Members of the public can reserve a duck in advance, from local pubs and other outlets in the village. Ducks can also be purchased on the day from 10am at Willowbrook Gardens.
Races will start from 12.30pm onwards, and will include the Abigail Taylor-Silk Race, the Business Challenge Shield Race, the Mike Smith Memorial Race, and the Mike Hinder Memorial Cup.
The details for these races are broken down below:
- Abigail Taylor-Silk Race: Children's race - £1 per duck. Prize for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & last place.
- Business Challenge Shield - Local businesses take part. 'Dress a duck' for the competition & certificate for speed and looks. £25.00 entry.
- Mike Smith Memorial Race - Adults' race. £1 per duck. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & last place.
- Mike Hinder Memorial Cup - Heats, which will then be followed by Grand Final depending on number of entries. Participants will design and build something that will float. lndividuals, families, groups are welcome to enter. Any materials can be used but no electrics. Dimensions have to be 12 x 6 ins (300 X 150 X 150mm). Entry is free and can be registered by 2pm on the day.
The races will begin at Fairwater House, and finish at the Weir Field Bridge.
