A huge congratulations to one of GWH's youngest volunteers, Yala McElroy, who has won a Rotary Young Citizen Award in Faringdon and has been put forward for the national award.

Yala joined the organisation as a volunteer at GWH just after her 16th birthday, and has been an incredible support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She has supported on the wards with delivering lunches and spending time with patients, has supported with organising the staff care packages and helped to direct patients and visitors around the hospital.
Yala said: "Just over a year ago when I had just turned 16, I applied to volunteer at GWH as I want to be a doctor and wanted experience working in a hospital as helping other has always been important for me.
"I started working on the Saturn ward then, during lockdown, I have really been enjoying volunteering on mercury ward. I find the work really rewarding and I feel that my confidence has very much improved especially with meeting patients and plan to continue volunteering until I start university to hopefully study medicine in 2022."
