Staff and pupils at Oliver Tomkins Junior School are celebrating after the latest Church school inspection report has rated the school as Outstanding in all areas.
On Tuesday June 27 the school received a SIAMS inspection which is independent of the Ofsted process. Church voluntary aided schools are required to have their SIAMS inspection every five years.
Headteacher Rhian Cockwell said: "We are overjoyed and very proud of our recent SIAMS report which has rated the school as Outstanding across all areas.
"It is a privilege to be a head teacher who is part of a team of pupils, staff, parents and governors that have consistently work together and support one another.
"This has been a further recognition, following on from our recent National Award for Achievement, for all of the hard work and as the report states “exemplary pastoral care given with by the whole staff team that has created an oasis of security within which all children flourish.”

Oliver Tomkins Junior is a school where every child is nurtured and cherished as an individual, precious in God’s sight. The whole staff team have created an oasis of security within which all children flourish and the Christian love with which the children are surrounded gives a sense of peace and security, so that there is no fear of failure and they are all enabled to do their best.
Christian values are the bedrock of all that occurs in and around school. The Christian vision of the headteacher is crystallised in the recently agreed vision statement, which reads ‘Growing, learning and exceeding in God’s love’. The report describes the collective worship as "inspiring" and the singing and prayer as "heartfelt and moving".
Good to outstanding RE teaching results, with excellent progress made by all children in line with and often beyond the expectations of the syllabus. The headteacher leads with strong Christian conviction and uncompromising determination so that the children will receive only the best in care, teaching and encouragement.
The transformation of the school over the last few years has been remarkable, notably in the improvement in children’s achievement academically.
Parents and carers are very appreciative of the Christian care shown and the sensitive way in which their children are supported and encouraged, especially when times are tough. They know that, for all of the staff, the wellbeing of every child is paramount. Parents are very proud of their school, and comments included this indication of the care for all, regardless of background, ‘They are nurturing the difference, it’s great. It’s one big family’.
Another parent said, ‘The head knows every child in the school by name, and she knows all the parents too!’
