Olympic champion, Pete Reed MBE, will be bringing along his medals and trying out the new gym equipment at the re-opening ceremony at 11am on Sunday 9 September.

Pete is a member of the successful men’s coxless fours rowing team that won gold in 2008 and again at London 2012 – and he has the world’s largest recorded lung capacity.

Cricklade Leisure Centre has been transformed over the last few months and now features a brand new bar and café where members can enjoy smoothies, shakes and hot snacks while watching live sport on the big screen TV. A new and improved pool viewing area means that parents can relax in comfort while watching their children swimming.

The gym has also been totally refurbished with more space and new ‘state of the art’ gym equipment – perfect for any budding rowing champions in the area.

Leisure Centre manager, Gary Walker, commented, “We are absolutely committed to securing the long-term future of Cricklade Leisure Centre for the benefit of local people. The new facilities, along with other recent developments such as the indoor climbing wall, means we can offer even more family friendly fun for our members.”

Asked whether he would be challenging Pete Reed to a race on the rowing machines, Gary laughed, “Luckily for Pete I’ll be busy behind the bar that day! But I’m sure he will inspire a lot of young people in the local area to take up sport, to train hard and to be the best they can possibly be. This could be the start of someone’s own Olympic journey and I’m delighted that we can now offer the facilities they need to help them on their way.”

The fun begins at 11am on Sunday 9 September. To find out more please visit the Cricklade Leisure centre website www.crickladeleisure.co.uk or call 01793 750011.
