Mums and dads in Swindon whose children receive support for autism are being encouraged to give feedback on the healthcare services used by their family at an upcoming listening event. Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group, which is responsible for purchasing healthcare in the town, is seeking parents’ opinions as it looks to improve the way in which youngsters with special needs access the help and support they need. Parents will be able to discuss their experiences of the healthcare services they use with representatives from the CCG, Swindon Borough Council and the Great Western Hospital at a special listening event taking place on Tuesday 12 June at the Meadow in Penhill. In recent years, the number of children in Swindon needing specialist support for conditions such as autism has increased, which has led to some families waiting longer than usual for professional care, treatment or advice. By involving parents in the changes, healthcare commissioners hope to be able to introduce a more effective referral system that supports children to get the care they need in the quickest time possible. Beginning at 9.30am and running until approximately midday, the three hour session will be an opportunity to hear more about the improvements being planned for Swindon’s autism services. Staff will also be on hand throughout the morning to listen to parents’ views and opinions and to record any feedback they have around how current services could be improved. Although open to all parents of children with autism, anybody wishing to come along to the listening event is asked to register their place in advance by sending an email to [email protected] or by calling 01793 683700.
