Taylor Wimpey has been given the go-ahead by Swindon's Planning Committee to build 2,380 homes to the north of Swindon.

The scheme, to the north of the A420, also includes two primary schools, restaurants, pubs and communal green space.

At this evening's Swindon Borough Council planning meeting, committee members agreed to follow officers' recommendation to grant outline planning permission for the scheme.

Taylor Wimpey plans to expand South Marston Village eastwards with 500 new homes. As part of the developer's 'New Eastern Villages' project, 1,880 homes are planned as part of a new village at Rowborough. Across the whole development, 23% of the homes will be affordable housing.

Planners have agreed to allow builders to use Old Vicarage Lane and Thornhill Road as access for work vehicles whilst building takes place.

The planning application also includes a new access road East of the A420, and a roundabout at Thornhill Road.
