With National Mental Health Awareness Week just around the corner, Swindon Borough Council’s Public Health Team will be opening a pop-up shop in the town centre to encourage residents to think about and look after their mental health. From Tuesday 15 to Friday 20 May, a hub known as ‘Head Space’ will be open in the Brunel Shopping Centre, next to Buzz Gyms, where almost 30 organisations from across the borough will be running different activities to promote positive mental wellbeing. The week-long event, which is part of Swindon’s Year of Mental Health, will include free sessions such as stress and relaxation courses, writing workshops, table tennis and cooking lessons. Cllr Brian Ford, Cabinet Member for Adults’ Health and Social Care, said: “It’s important to recognise that everyone has mental health needs and various things contribute to how well or unwell we feel at different times of our lives. “These events will promote positive mental wellbeing and the steps we can all take to look after ourselves, so I’d really encourage people to go along and get involved. “I’d also like to thank the Brunel Shopping Centre, inSwindon and all of the partner organisations involved for their support; it really has been a team effort.” Further details of what’s on offer throughout the week can be found by searching ‘head space’ on:www.swindontowncentre.co.uk
