A 51-year-old man who carried out a number of burglaries in Swindon and Highworth has been jailed for four years.

Michael Loraine of no fixed address pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and three of burglary.   He was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Friday 9 June 2017.

These relate to:  the theft from a shopper in Pound World on Regent Street in February 2017 and a shoplifting incident from HMV in Swindon town centre in January 2017.   Also, a burglary at a home in Hilton Close, Lawn, between 24 November and 15 December 2016 and, in April 2017, break-ins at a house on Biddel Springs and at a property on Windrush - both in Highworth.

Community Co-ordinator PC Phillippa Sharpley said:  "We welcome this sentencing as this person was instrumental in a number of burglaries and thefts in the Swindon area.

"Thanks to information given to the police from the public we have been able to remove another criminal from the streets of Swindon - someone who didn't care about how his actions would drastically affect his victims."
