After a stretch of fundraising efforts, staff of The Jovial Monk Pub presented £2,000 to support vulnerable and disadvantaged adults.

Throughout 2018 staff and customers at the North Swindon-based pub, The Jovial Monk, have been raising funds for local charity The Open Door Centre.

Raised by in-house raffles, sponsor days from the Jovial Monk Golf Society, and party in the car park the pub presented The Open Doors Centre with a £2,463.20 cheque.

This is the second year The Jovial Monk has supported the charity, after its premises was broken into in February last year. Landlady, Deborah Young, said: "?2,000 of what we raised was taken - so we felt it necessary to raise more money.

"We always choose Swindon-based and small charities, or 'the ugly charities' as some people call them - organisations that work with adults with learning difficulties, ex-addicts, or recovering alcoholics, people don't tend to give to these charities. With the charities we like to go from one extreme to the other, so it's different each time.

"I'd like to thank Gary Causer and Steve Bay from the Golf Society for getting donations for our auctions.

"For our next charity we've selected Naomi House & Jacksplace, which is a children hospice. We'll be holding another Party in the Car Park, 14 July - it's great because it brings everyone together, and it's such a good laugh doing it."
