Never mind the weather members of local musical theatre society Wootton Bassett Light Operatic Society, WBLOS, are tapping their feet and singing their hearts out.

Not only are they relishing their 40th anniversary this year but performing their latest show is really keeping them on their toes and a smile on their faces.

The society has a lot to be excited about this year.  After a very successful pantomime at the end of January, Little Red Riding Hood, they are in the final stages of preparation for Singing in the Rain at the end of April.

Later in the year the WBLETS, WBLOS’s junior section will be performing Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and the end of September brings a special anniversary concert “Back to the Future.”

Singing In The Rain is an uplifting, toe-tapping, smile-on-your-face musical.  It uses romance, humour and plenty of song and dance to tell the tale of the birth of the talkies.  Boy, star of silent movies, meets girl, wannabe actress.

Girl mocks boy, boy mocks girl gently and girl runs off. Boy meets girls again and loses her. Amid much frantic tap dancing, songs and elocution lessons boy and girl are reunited. Cue happy tears, smiles and applause! The End.

Rumours that show director, Mrs Marion Aspell, has instructed the cast to practise splashing in puddles, twirling umbrellas and swinging around lampposts could not be confirmed.

Cosmo Brown, as played by Mike Davies, said “It's great to be doing the best musical ever for our 40th anniversary.  Brilliant singing, dancing, and acting, alongside people with all sorts of experience in WBLOS!

"Laura Coates who is playing Kathy Seldon commented “What a show for my first WBLOS foray!  Full of iconic dances, infectious songs and a story that everyone knows. I feel very lucky to pay tribute to the great Debbie Reynolds in such a timeless role.”

This lively, warm-hearted, inspirational musical event is taking place at the Memorial Hall in Royal Wootton Bassett on Thursday 27, Friday 28 and Saturday 29 April 2017 at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost. £11.00 and £9.00 for concessions. Phone:  07809 566981 for tickets.
