Wiltshire have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who was hit by a car in Swindon on Sunday night.

A 75-year-old local man, who was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, following the collision at the junction of Southernwood Drive and Westfield Way, sadly died last night.

His family have been informed and are receiving support from police.

A 21-year-old man from Swindon was arrested yesterday late afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder and has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

DI Jim Taylor, from the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team, appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

He said: “This is tragic news for the victim’s family and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“We have been carrying out detailed enquiries since the collision, but we are still hoping the public can help provide vital bits of information.

“Were you in the area at the time of the crash, or did you see either vehicle before the collision occurred?

“If you know something, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, please call police and help us solve this investigation.”

The collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a red Toyota Yaris happened at around 8.50pm on Sunday night (8 July 2018) at the junction of Southernwood Drive and Westfield Way.

The passenger of the Toyota, the man who died, got out of his vehicle to exchange details but was struck by the Corsa when it drove off from the scene.

Anyone with information, including those who may have dash cam footage, should contact MCIT on 101 quoting Operation Manor, or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
