Residents who vote at a Swindon polling station are reminded that they will be required to bring their poll card or identification in order to vote in tomorrow’s (3 May) local elections

All residents who are registered to vote will have had a poll card hand-delivered to them. The poll card will contain the address of the polling station. Every polling station will be open for people to cast their vote between 7am and 10pm tomorrow (3 May).

The only Borough Ward not up for election is Ridgeway

The poll card is the best form of identification to use as it contains a unique barcode which will be scanned on polling day to confirm the individual’s identity. If a resident loses or forgets their poll card, they can bring any one of the following forms of ID:

  • Passport (UK, EU, Commonwealth) (can be expired or unexpired)
  • Photocard driving licence including a provisional licence (UK, Crown Dependency or EU)
  • Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
  • Biometric Immigration Document
  • EEA Identity Card

If a resident does not have any of these forms of identification they can be attested to confirm their identity. To have an identity attested, one resident must be on the polling station register and had their ID verified before they can vouch for the identity of the other resident enabling them to vote.

Replacement poll cards can also be re- issued if a resident has no other form of ID and cannot be attested. A new poll card can be requested by contacting Electoral Services at [email protected] or 01793 445500. Replacement poll cards can be issued up until 9pm on election night. Please note that these will be available for collection only and will be only issued on proof of ID

Electoral Services Manager, Sally Sprason, said: “The local elections are taking place tomorrow. I’d like to take this last opportunity to remind electors in Swindon that they will need to bring their poll card or another form of ID with them to vote at a polling station tomorrow.

“I’d also like to encourage residents to remind their friends and family to have their poll card or other form of ID ready for polling day.

“Polling stations are open between 7am and 10pm and all electors need to do is to bring themselves and their poll card to be able to vote.”
