A running group with a difference is challenging new members to sign up and join in the fun.

Kennett Valley Hash House Harriers is a highly social group that describes itself as a ‘drinking club with a running problem’.

The club belongs to an international ‘Hash’ organisation which traces its origins back to 1938 Malaysia when a group of British colonial officers and expatriates began meeting on Monday evenings to run, in a fashion patterned after the traditional British Paper Chase or “Hare and Hounds”. Hashing takes place at a local pub where one or two hashers (otherwise known as hares), take it in turns to lay a trail of flour using dots , arrows and circles , along pavements and through countryside using legal footpaths and other rights of way.

The Kennet Valley Hash has been in existence since 1998 and the group recently celebrated its 500th hash.

The Kennet Valley Hash meets on alternate Sundays at 11am at a pub usually within a 30 minute drive of Swindon to run a five mile trail.  It's free to attend and there are no forms to fill in or membership to pay.  After the hash there is a chance to chat over a drink or meal in the pub.

New members are welcome to turn up on the day and join in. Contact the hash leader Keith on 07486 519 824 or log on to their website at http://kvh3.co.uk
