A shoplifter who stole from stores in Swindon town centre has been sentenced to a rehabilitation order.

Nigel Perren, aged 43 (DOB: 05/09/73), stole from Marks and Spencer and Wilkinsons in the town centre between 25 February and 26 March.

He was arrested on Thursday 30 March in Swindon town centre and was sent to Swindon Magistrates Court the following day where he pleaded guilty to five charges of theft/shoplifting (two in Wilkinsons and three in M&S). He was also sentenced the same day.

Perren is to take part in an rehabilitation scheme over the course of ten days.

PC Jonathan Kilburn said: "This man is a prolific shoplifter in the town and I hope this sentence will send a message to others that we will not tolerate this sort of behaviour here.

"Also, I am hoping that the rehabilitation scheme he has been sentenced to will help him break this destructive habit."
