Swindon Croquet Club's Golf Croquet team played a home game against Weston Super Mare B team and were defeated for a second time this season.

Swindon CC’s Golf Croquet team was very disappointed when they suffered their second defeat of the season last weekend.

Trailing 1-3 following the doubles games, SCC battled hard but found themselves unable to make up the deficit during the singles section and narrowly lost 9-11 in this 20 game match.

The match was played at Moredon in wet and windy conditions, making scoring hoops difficult for both sides.

The Weston-super-Mare players were said to be generally on higher handicaps and made good use of their ‘extra shots’, putting the SCC team under a lot of pressure.

However, the SCC said Swindon’s Terry Clements played some inspired croquet, winning three games to claim the ‘Man of the Match’ accolade.

Captain Clive Smith said: “The playing conditions were not good over the weekend but, despite the rain, there were some closely competed games. We look forward to bouncing back in our next match which is away at Camerton & Peasedown (Bath) later this month."

Those who would like to try the sport can attend free taster sessions (with friendly tuition and equipment provided) at SCC’s Moredon lawns.
