The Swindon Croquet Club's Golf Croquet team battled through the extreme heat to compete in their Summer Singles Tournament this week.
Competitors were split into three round robin groups by tournament organiser Tony Tomlin, with players abiding by the newly introduced ‘hoop advantage’ handicap system.
The lawns were found to be lightning fast for the tournament, but the Swindon team said this did not prevent some excellent croquet shots being played throughout the day.
Dave Booth, Martin Briggs, Steve Hares and Clive Smith progressed to the semi-final stage before Clive overcame Martin in a fiercely contested final match.
Tournament Organiser Tony Tomlin said: “It was very hot out on the lawns but all players enjoyed this competitive event.
"The final was a super game, it included high quality, strong clearances and accurate hoop running with Clive narrowly beating Martin by 7-5”.
