Port Vale fans punched Swindon Town players during a pitch invasion at Vale park after the home side secured a place at Wembley.

Thousands took to the pitch following yesterday's fixture, and a number of Town players were punched in scenes widely condemned as disgraceful.

TV images appeared to show Jack Payne, Ben Gladwin and Jake O'Brien being targeted before security intervened.

The invasion happened after Port Vale secured a 6-5 aggregate victory following penalties in the second leg of the semi-final.

Many fans took to social media to share their horror and anger at what had happened, with some calling for the perpetrators to be tracked down and prosecuted.

The incident came days after a Nottingham Forest fan was jailed for butting Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp following Forest's play-off match with Sheffield United.
